The trombone is a middle to low voice in the brass section. Typically we think of a trombone as having a slide, and either no trigger (valve) or 1 trigger. There could be 1 or 2 trombones for a piece, and maybe also a bass trombone, which simply makes very low playing easier. The mouthpiece is much larger than the trumpet.

Fun fact: Jordan played trombone in high school!
