Violin Lessons

Fall 2024 Update:
We are taking new students for the fall. We start from the very beginning, spending time to help the student hold the violin and bow properly, and gain a basic understanding of their first songs/pieces, before attempting to play. The Suzuki Method was also called the Mother Tongue Method, because Dr. Suzuki believed people could learn music just like any other language when they are young. Not by rigorous instruction, reading, testing; but by listening.

Our students listen to their upcoming pieces daily, so that they are memorized by the time they begin work on them. This removes a huge hurdle- knowing what they should sound like- and leaves the task of figuring out how to play what they have internalized, upon the violin.

Suzuki Teaching
We are trained Suzuki teachers, and teaching is one of the most important and fulfilling things we do. There are so many benefits for anyone learning to play an instrument, but especially children benefit. You can see some of our formal training on the About page.

Studies show that children learning instruments do better in standardized testing, and grasp theoretical concepts better. There is more on this on the Resources page.

To be successful, a child needs:

  1. A parent in the lesson, learning, taking notes, and practicing with any child under 15.
  2. At least 30 minutes of practice per day.

We teach in Midtown Memphis, and also in Collierville on Monday and Tuesday nights. Most of our current openings are in Collierville.
